The concept of “cultural hegemony” became popular, particularly after Recep Tayyip Erdoğan frequently mentioned it as the sole drawback of AKP’s long-term rule. This talk aims to provide a brief genealogy of Turkey’s “cultural hegemony” problem and examine the various aspects of its current “culture wars”.
Born in 1963 in Ankara, Tanıl Bora is an editor of İletişim [Publications]. He is also a contributing writer and publication coordinator for the journal, Birikim. His research focuses primarily on political ideologies in Turkey.
